The word “mundane” is derived from the word mundus, meaning world in Latin. As we understand, the modern meaning of mundane conveys an idea of earthly things, objects uninteresting compared to the pleasures of heaven. Yet, I challenge the conventionalized commonplace, finding intimacy and beauty in mundus. Haphazardly strung laundry colored in pinks and oranges, two birds caught in their flight past a snaking serenity of ivy, and a man through the milky white mesh disturb our definition of mundane. These photos are private, yet rich in textures, colors, and feelings. Mundus manifests hidden heavenly delights, and heaven is painted by the colors of our world.
